Have you experienced any power failures in your area in the last few months? Has it happened a little more than usual? Did you know, as a precaution, that you could prepare the door opener for this sort of situation with a backup battery? Check here why battery service is an integral part of garage door services in OKC.

Battery Backup for Safety

So, the truth is that although your door isn't new, battery safeguards are a good idea. It is not always possible to open the gate manually. You may not be able to lift the door yourself if you are older or disabled. And consider the heat of some of these fires we had in Oklahoma. The door may be too hot to touch, much less elevated!

Convenience

And battery back-up is still a pretty good idea, even outside a life and death situation or evacuation. Electric outages in Oklahoma City are quite common. Power to your garage door during a power failure is convenient. It may be the reason that you are late for work. Or at the end of a long day, when you come home to a dark house, you can at least still use your garage door.
And you will not be trapped during a power outage when you use your garage door as the entry point to your building. The battery backup allows you to always reach and leave your house, regardless of whether you have electricity or not.

When to Change Battery

In addition to the orange or red light that indicates the state of the battery, a beep is heard every 2 to 30 seconds, depending on the battery model you use.

Expensive

If you want to add a 475LM battery to your door opener, budget is approximately $100. If you wonder about the battery costs for a 485LM motor housing, your estimate should be between $50 and $60 over a battery-free door opener.

Optional Battery Backup

When power is disrupted, the remaining option is to open the door manually. You must pull down the red emergency release cord, disconnect the trolley, lift the door manually, move your car out of the garage, close the entrance, and reconnect to the release mechanism. If you don't choose or forget to reconnect the carriage, anybody can manually open your garage door, so that your possessions are not safe any longer.

A sidelock on the inside of the door on the second section can be installed to avoid this situation. If you push the steel bar into the vertical track on the lock, you will lock your door so nobody can enter. Don't forget to unlock that lock and reengage the opener when power is restored.
